Hurricane the storm is forecast to become a uncommon category five storm as it veers towards the Caribbean island, delivering life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides.

This weather system, which recorded winds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is now shifting north-west in the Caribbean region and is projected to reach land by Tuesday, as reported by meteorological authorities.

Alerts of blackouts and disruption to utilities have been released as this storm produces up to thirty inches of precipitation and sea level surges as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," inhabitants have been told.

This hurricane is the thirteenth cyclone in this year's Atlantic season, which usually concludes in November.

A highest-level cyclone is the most powerful category, with winds of at least 252 km/h.

"But the best way to handle anxiety and any apprehension and worry is to be prepared."

Residents are being advised to fortify their houses with protective bags and wooden boards, and to accumulate necessary supplies.

Alerts are also in effect for parts of Haiti encompassing the primary urban center, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where this storm is anticipated to bring comparable impacts by the midweek period.

Mudslides already being caused by the hurricane have already killed two in the country, according to local authorities.

Melissa is forecast to move across Cuba by the middle of the week before traveling via the Antillas Mayores and emerging into the Atlantic Ocean.

By the point it arrives at Cuba, it is anticipated to have weakened to a category three hurricane.
